The Barbados
Cadet Corps Band Rebuilding ....
Again!! |
|
Every
Year, the cream of the musicians
nurtured and trained by the
dedicated officers of the Cadet
Band leaves the organization, as
they graduate and move on with
their lives. Every year,
the band picks itself up and
raises the standards with a
seemingly never-ending stream of
talented cadets, and
unbelievable dedication from the
officers.
Far from being
frustrating, this process
represents the very heart of
cadetting..... |

Corps'
Annual Awards Ceremony to be expanded |
|
The BCC HQ
will be staging a Corps-wide Awards
Ceremony on a
date to be announced. This
ceremony will seek to combine all
activities covered in the last academic
year and summer of 2010. An organizing
Committee has been appointed to
co-ordinate plans for the ceremony, and
full details will be announced shortly.
Recognition
will be given to all of the various
outstanding units, activities, cadets,
NCOs, officers and other associates of
the Corps. In previous years, separate
ceremonies were held to recognize
outstanding performances, however it was
felt that the really outstanding
achievements in the Corps needed to be
shared at a much wider level. |
Date
of Awards Ceremony to be reviewed.
Due to
difficulties in booking a suitable venue
at the times desired, the Corps award
ceremony will be rescheduled to a later
date in term 1. |

Cadet
Summer Camp Attends Church Parade |
|
Two hundred and sixty
cadets and officers of the Barbados Cadet Corps
concluded Cadet Week 2010 with a Church Parade at the
St. Patrick's Anglican Church on Sunday July 25, 2010.
The cadets who were at
the time attending the main phase of the annual summer
camp, enjoyed a lively and interactive service
Camp Commandant, Captain
John Kellman thanked the priest and congregation for
hosting the cadets, and explained the reason and timing
of the church parade. Also in attendance at the service
was cadet commandant Lt Col T T Browne and Cadet
Executive Officer, Major Patrick Skeete and Mrs. Skeete.
After the service, the
parade paid compliments to the Priest in a ceremonial
march pass the church.

Hundreds of
Cadets march through city |
Sharp drenching showers had no
impact on the hundreds of cadets of the Barbados Cadet Corps who
paraded through Bridgetown on
Saturday
July 24. The parade was in celebration of Cadet Week which
commemorates 106 years of cadetting locally.
Multiple detachments,
representing various aspects of cadet activities, and
accompanied by The Cadet Band and the Barbados Regiment Band,
marched from Harrison College down to Jubilee Gardens via the
Wharf road, and back via Broad Street. |
 |
As
if on cue, the showers came just as the parade stepped off and
the sun returned with blue skies upon completion of the march.
The Cadets returned to Paragon
campsite where they are currently in the middle of the annual
summer camp. |
The
Sea Cadet detachment
Commandant of the Corps, Lt Col
Trevor Browne explained that in addition to celebrating Cadet
Week, the march provided the very first opportunity for over two
hundred new cadets to wear their new uniform in public.
The cadets will attend a church
service at St Patrick's Church on Sunday. |

CADET CORPS 2010 OVERSEAS ENGAGEMENTS
COMMENCE WITH MISSION TO GRENADA |
|

Parents and guardians witness the departure of the Star 4 Cadets on
board HMBS RUDYARD LEWIS.
On Wednesday 20 July 2010, amidst the excitement created at Paragon Base
for the Cadet Band, Sea cadet Unit and Star 1,2 and 3 Cadets, the Star 4
Cadets departed camp at 1915 to move to HMBS PELICAN Base, the starting
point of their Star 4 adventure.
Cadet HQ staff, parents and cadets gathered alongside HMBS Rudyard Lewis
which was gearing up to transport these cadets on their mission to
Grenada
Finally
the moment came and HMBS RUDYARD LEWIS slipped at 2200 hours in the
quiet of the night.
Parents and Cadet HQ staff waved back to cadets standing proudly on
board bedecked in their uniforms and life vests.
They were off on a 9-hours journey to Grenada. The
group was led by Major John
Walcott. He was assisted by OCdt Zara Massiah and Sgt Samuel Boyce,
Permanent Staff Instructor at Cadet Headquarters. On board also was BDF
medic, Pte Small S.

The morning after the departure of the first wave of cadets, the
remainder of the Barbados Cadet Corps contingent assembled at Grantley
Adams International Airport. |

The remainder of the Star 4 Cadets pose
with Lt Col Atheline Branch and Lt Col Trevor Browne
On their arrival they were greeted by Lt Col Trevor Browne, Commandant
of the Barbados Cadet Corps and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Lt Col
Atheline Branch who both had a word of encouragement for the Cadets.
The previous evening, Lt Col Branch had performed a similar function for
the cadets travelling by Coast Guard vessel After checking in, Cadets
were assembled for prayers and Rev Devere Murrell, BDF chaplain, was on
hand to say a prayer and share a few thoughts with the members of the
group. The two officers travelling with this group were 2Lt Khalil
Greene and OCdt Tikesia Clarke.
During the 48-hour period prior to the departure of this group, an
advanced party comprising Capt Errol Brathwaite and a BDF cook, Pte
Daniel, had moved to Grenada by air to make preparations on the ground
for the arrival of the Barbados Cadet Corps contingent.
These 39 Star 4 cadets will travel to Grenada to complete their
demanding Star 4 training program. This group will play a very special
role in Grenada as role models and instructors for the new cadets of the
recently reconstituted Grenada Cadet Corps. This organization had been
inactive since the Coup of the early 1980’s. |

Record turnout for Summer Camp 2010 |
|
Record numbers of cadets have responded to all phases
of summer camp 2010. As the final phase of local camp gets going,
Paragon is again packed to capacity as cadets turned out in their
numbers to complete this crucial part of their annual training.
The first of its kind EXAMS camp was also an overwhelming
success. Lt Randolph Clarke, who is the officer responsible for
the Corps' Exams and Records, expressed satisfaction at the turnout. The
campsite was again packed full and all exams were completed with the
professionalism that can be expected from Lt Clarke and his team. |
For the first time in anyone's memory, it was necessary
to actually turn away some cadets at the Junior Cadet camp due to the
excessive numbers and the late registration in those cases.
Enthusiasm has been high and the standards very
impressive according to all reports. CEO Major Patrick Skeete has
expressed satisfaction at the enthusiasm of all cadets this year.
The star 4 cadets under Major John Walcott's
command leave for Grenada on Tuesday 20 Jul and the final two phases of
camp, and also the most anticipated, will see teams leave for camps in
Ottawa, Canada and Nottinghamshire England in a few weeks.
