The Shooting Program of the Barbados Cadet Corps under the watchful eye of the coach, Barbados’ top shot Marlon Best, and Officers, Capt. M. Moore (HQ Staff Officer), OCdt D. Smith (OC) and OCdt S. King (Admin Officer) has evolved tremendously over the last twelve months. The hard work, commitment and dedication shown by the cadets, testifies to the fact that the Barbados Cadet Corps is the organization for major youth development in Barbados.
|
The cadets, who are currently preparing for Junior Commonwealth Games to be held in Calcutta, India in October of this year, train every Saturday morning from 0930hrs – 1400 hrs. These training sessions which will increase as time draws nigh include a rigorous mental and fitness regime that, in the end will build the cadet’s self esteem, moral and overall character.

| From starting with an outfit of 17 cadets and 3 loner firearms, the program which is now 10 strong and fully outfitted with 5 firearms, jackets, gloves, resting stands, ear plugs and shoes all through funding, looks to showcase their talent and mastery of the shooting discipline. This much anticipated and yet another historical moment in the 100+ year history of Corps will take place on Saturday 16th February 2008 at Barbados Rifle and Pistol Federation at 1030hrs. With this in mind, the “Top Guns” of the Corps have issued a shoot off challenge to the Officers stating that “if wanna tink that wanna could shoot…Bring it on. We ready fa ya.” Seven elite officers have answered call, and after Saturday’s dry run can’t wait until the games begin. All are welcome to attend the match and show your support not only for your fellow officers but for the cadets as they prepare bigger occasions to come in 2008. |
In concluding, as the program continues to grow from its embryo tic stage to full adulthood, the continual support of Corps and its support arms is greatly appreciated. Take a look at the photos below as “the Elite Seven” knock off the rust a week before the contest while some of the “Young Guns” show them the “dos and don’ts.”
