No 9 Unit (Parkinson) celebrates 25 Years
Officers and cadets of the No 9 Unit hosted a large number of officials, friends and well wishers on Sat July 7 at the School to celebrate the unit's 25th anniversary. In a moving ceremony, the unit paid tributes to all those who have supported its development through the years.

The Master of ceremonies for the evening was former No 9 cadet Alf Padmore (of Cadet Boot camp fame) and the guest of honour was Colonel Alvin Quintyne, Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force, deputy Chairman of the School Board and former student.

Large numbers of teachers and staff of the school, former cadets, officers, cadets, parents and friends were present for the occasion.

Among those awarded were former OCs and 2ICs of the unit. BDF and Cadet Corps personnel who worked closely with the unit. Former cadets who have continued to assist; and recognition of the pioneers who joined the first batch at the unit.

A particularly moving session saw each cadet and a parent come to the stage where the cadets sang a special tribute to their parents and presented each one with a token from the unit.

Present cadets who performed well academically were also specially recognised. Ms Josette Sam, was also awarded by cadets and parents for her work with the cadets.

In his feature address, Col Quintyne urged the cadets to do their very best to make the school proud of them. He suggested that their motto should be 'If it is to be, it is up to me.'

After the formalities, there were refreshments and lots of socialising among old friends.
