The Barbados Cadet Corps
issues certificates of merit from 2007

After years of planning and exploring various options, the BCC has launched its long awaited certification system at the 2007 awards ceremony. All cadets graduating from the Corps were presented with customized certificates which detailed the cadets training, accomplishments and progress in the Corps.

This process will continue on an annual basis.

The BCC has been an intimate partner of the local education system since 1904 when it was formally legislated after an initiative by Principals of the leading boys schools in the Island. The objective was to provide training in leadership, discipline, self-confidence and civic mindedness that compliments the academic training that is represented by the school's regular curriculum.

Cadetting has continued since that start 104 years ago, and have now grown to be available to all boys and girls in all educational institutions on the island.

In response to numerous request from graduates to be provided with official documentation of the special training received during their cadet career, the Corps explored various options including recognition by established institutions.

In the end, it was decided that the Corps itself, which has been in this business before many regional certification institutions, will stand behind its programmes and will provide individualized certificates to all graduates.

The first certificates were presented by Cadet Commandant, Lt Col Trevor Browne, and clearly represented a proud moment for him. Col Browne is extremely proud of the training provided by the cadet corps and he consistently recognizes the work done by his officers who are volunteers. He is convinced that employers and tertiary institutions will come to highly value the possession of a premium certificate of graduation from the Barbados Cadet Corps.
