A massive presence of cadets were among the hundreds of mourners that also included school mates, scouts, church mates, along with the full compliment of family and friends. This was the scene at St David's Anglican Church on Wed 28 Feb 07. The sad occasion was the funeral of cadet Cpl Maughn D. An outstanding cadet and young lady, Dashadyia lived up to the meaning of her name in her short but treasured time with us. There was uncontrolled grief at the painful loss and although cadets on solemn duties performed their various tasks with pride and dignity, the deep sadness was reflected in the free flowing tears, deep reflection and mournful expressions.

Moving tributes painted a picture of a model daughter, good student, keen cadet and dependable friend who loved cadetting, enjoyed life, was active in church and had no shortage of friends.

Her Commanding Officer Lt Junior Ward spoke of her reliability, her love for cadetting and her excellent relationships- both with officers and also with her leadership of her charges in the unit. Major P.A. Skeete also paid tribute on behalf of Cadet headquarters.

It was an extremely sad and moving ceremony. Parents, relatives and many friends were overcome with grief at the distressing and sudden loss. Officers, NCOs and cadets played a great role in consoling others, assisting relatives and honouring the memory of Cpl Maughn.

Thanks to each and every one who attended and offered their condolences and support.
