2006 CORPS INSPECTION A HUGE SUCCESS |
|
|
Officers and Cadets, as well as Parents, Guardians and friends turned out in large numbers on Saturday February 25 for the first ever Corps-wide annual inspection. Normally, units are inspected individually at the various schools or, in the last few years by Company (group of three school units). This year, mainly in an attempt to allow more time for Cadet Units to engage in other activities like hiking, shooting, camping etc, a decision was taken to have all units inspected on one day at a single location. St Ann's Fort was swamped by approximately 800 cadets and 45 officers who were present for the Inspection. Large numbers of Parents, Guardians and friends were on hand in the afternoon to observe aspects of the Inspection as well as the prize giving ceremony. Permanent Secretary, Defense and Security Capt Randolph Straughan, Acting Chief of Staff of the BDF Commander Dave Dowridge and a number of school Principals were also there to witness the final presentations. In a brief address, Cadet Commandant Lt Col T T Browne praised the cadets for their commitment and excellent work over the past year. He highlighted the Cadet Band's outstanding record during 2005, crowned with NIFCA gold and silver awards and featuring at Independence Parade 2005. He also commended the Sea Cadets who have reached very high standards in a short time since full establishment and the Infantry for exemplary performances last year. He especially praised performances at regional summer camps last year. Colonel Browne called for more resources to be made available to the Cadet Corps in keeping with its growth and success and he praised the Officers of the Corps who he credits with the success and growth over the years. |
