SIX MORE JOIN OFFICER'S LONG SERVICE CLUB

 

  
Minister of Education, Hon Anthony Wood was on hand to witness the second Awards Dinner for long serving officers of the Barbados Cadet Corps when five officers from Barbados and one from St Vincent were honoured for their service of over twenty years each to the Cadet movement. In a black tie affair also attended by PS Defence and Security, Capt Randolph Straughan, Chief of Staff of the B.D.F. Col Alvin Quintyne and various guests, associates  and other officers the honourees were praised for their commitment and valuable service. 

The honourees are:

After dinner, PMC, Capt John Kellman welcomed the guest and invited Mrs Margaret Allman-Goddard to read the citations for the six officers. Commandant of the BCC, Lt Col T T Browne then presented the honourees with their awards which consisted of ceremonial canes and framed portraits.

In his congratulatory remarks, Col Browne highlighted the successes and growth of the Cadet Corps and attributed this largely to the quality and commitment of the officers. He was full of praise for the outstanding voluntary contributions being made by officers of the Corps.

Lt Naomi Williams then dedicated a special song in tribute to the evening's stars and Minister Wood then gave his remarks in which he was very complementary of the work being done by the Cadet Corps and the excellent co-operation between the Corps and his Ministry. He expressed his support for the plans laid on for the growth and development of the Barbados Cadet Corps and suggested that the commandant's goal of 5000 by 2010 could even be exceeded.

Capt Maria Moore gave the vote of thanks to round off another good show by the Mess Committee and officers of the Corps.
