CADET BOOT CAMP

LOOKING TO BE BIG HIT

'It has been a great experience so far' a recruit

Easter weekend 2006

Over the Easter weekend, the Cadet Corps' headquarters and campsite took on the look of business as usual- with officers, NCOs, cadets and recruits on hand and everyone looking sharp, businesslike and purposeful -as usual. But there were a few discrepancies, like: what's with all the cameras? and were those recruits not a bit old? and the sergeant did look like his name was BoB.

The activity was centered around fifteen 'recruits' who volunteered to participate in the latest reality TV show.' CADET BOOT CAMP'. Their mission- to survive the life of a recruit of the Cadet Corps while learning basic cadetting skills and taking part in various challenges routinely done by cadets. None of the participants had any previous military experience and (like recruits everywhere) had no idea what to expect or what would happen next.

Cadets, former cadets, relatives and friends of cadets and anyone associated with the military will want to catch this series. It is action packed, full of drama, laughs and many lessons in leadership, teamwork and character building. It promises a lot.

From the enigmatic Sergeant Padmore, to recruit 46622 Jordan, the characters are gripping, moody and focused. The highly decorated Cadet Chief wields awesome power and brings fear to the hearts of everyone on the set. There is also the feared Drill sergeant, and inevitably, the dreaded Orderly room process.

The series is directed by Mrs. Suzanne Prescod of Saffire Productions and filmed by a hardworking and professional crew . A number of Cadet Corps personnel were on hand to ensure that there was a high degree of authenticity to the procedures and activities. Capt Errol Braithwaite and a small team coordinated things for Cadet HQ.

Participants enjoyed the experience and generally left with a high appreciation of the Cadet Corps and the cadet experience. The final winner and  champion cadet? it will take 14 weeks of TV challenges to determine that, but already it appears that cadetting and the wholesome activities enjoyed by local cadets for over a century is the clear winner.

The show airs on CBC TV on Mondays commencing Monday May 22nd.
