OVER AND AWAY FOR SUMMER CAMPS 2006

Over two hundred star 2 and above cadets will be traveling to four Caribbean destinations this summer for one of the biggest ever overseas camps to be undertaken by the Barbados Cadet Corps. Star four cadets will be traveling to Dominica to complete the adventurous training component of their training program, while star two and three cadets - along with the Cadet Band will be holding their summer camp in St Lucia.

it has been a hectic lead up period to this point, but as usual the Officers , cadets and all those involved have pulled out all the stops to ensure a smooth and professional schedule. Commandant of the Corps Lt Col T Browne once again praised officers for their hard work and dedication as he asked God's blessings and wished them good luck on their various missions. All Camps should be completed by 5th August.

All camps will be fully supported with many other experienced officers playing different roles and with a full contingent of Cadet Headquarters staff led by CEO Major Patrick Skeete.

The response from cadets and from parents and guardians (some of whom  will be assisting with the camp) has been overwhelming.

Sea Cadets including sea cadet of the year LS Samrodia show off their new caps before boarding. Contingent falls in in preparation to boarding the 'Trident' Trident pulls out of port on way to Antigua.

The Sea Cadet Unit will be in Antigua for their joint camp arrangement with the Antigua Cadet Force and a contingent of cadets are also in Jamaica to participate in the annual Caribbean Camp and to represent Barbados in the Caribbean Shooting competition.

Obviously it is a case of all hands on deck for the hardworking officers of the Corps and indeed unprecedented numbers have been pressed into service in the various locations.

Another contingent of sea cadets left by air for Antigua.

Major Peter Powlett will take up the duties of Camp Commandant in St Lucia while Captain David Clarke takes on responsibilities for the star 4 program in Dominica, Captain Errol Brathwaite looks after matters in Jamaica and SLt Robert Morris will run the Sea cadet camp in Antigua.

Referring to the busy schedule of many officers due to promotion exams, marking for CXC etc, the Cadet Commandant lauded the fact that the Corps could still pull of this operation so smoothly while also executing the awards dinner, Launch Ceremony for our first vessel, and the new Canadian training scheme for officers.
