Barbados Cadet Corps On The Move Overseas - Part 1

Train The Trainers Programme –  Dominica    (25  -  28 May 2007)

A 3 - man training team from Barbados Cadet Headquarters will be  off to Dominica on Thursday 24 May 2007 to conduct a four-day Train the Trainers Programme  on behalf of the Dominica Cadet Corps.

Beside the main aim of conducting this pre-course training, it is also a goodwill gesture made towards the Dominica Cadet Corps which has been redoubling its efforts to make the Cadet Corps play a decisive role in the lives of young citizens of Dominica. It is aimed also at exposing large numbers of adult leaders to fundamental training related to the Cadet Corps Training syllabus.

The airfare and allowances have been donated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Dr Rosina Wiltshire, Resident Representative of  UNDP  is very keen on seeing our youths develop emotional intelligence and a sense of purpose in their lives. She has been extremely cooperative in rendering this financial assistance which is much appreciated by both countries.

Cadet Executive Officer of the Barbados Cadet Corps, Major Patrick Skeete, will visit Dominica on holiday with his wife Mrs Eartha Skeete during this weekend. Amidst the leisure activity, he will  be attending the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Course. He will also be guest on a one-hour radio programme “On The Beat” discussing the importance of Cadet Training. This programme will be aired on Friday 25 May from 1900 - 2000 hours. Major Skeete last camped in Dominica in 1974 when he was a Cadet. The current Commandant of Dominica Cadet Corps, Major Richards, was a Cadet in that very camp in 1974.

It is hoped that this training support can be provided annually to other Caribbean Cadet Corps in need of similar assistance. This is another service offered by the Barbados Cadet Corps

This ‘Train  the Trainers Programme" is for the Potential Cadet Officers seeking to offer their services to the Dominica Cadet Corps (DCC). It is in response to a request from the Commandant of Dominica Cadet Corps, Major Francis Richards for training to prepare his potential Officers before they attend the Potential Cadet Officer Course (PCO Course)  scheduled to be held in Barbados from 3 - 19 August 2007. The team consists of Course Officer, Capt Dennis Browne, WO 2 Cherrol Deane and Sgt Gregory Brome. They will be assisted by Capt Dorsen Robin of the DCC who is Assistant Course Officer, and other Dominican personnel.
