WHAT IS LASER TAG?

Cadets will never be the same again...

Samples of the new training equipment ordered for use by the Barbados Cadet Corps have been received at Cadet Headquarters. Two laser tag weapons -one M16 and one M4 gun.

This equipment is currently being checked and reviewed by officers and PSI's while the main shipment is being processed.

Laser tag is a fast growing sport in many countries where participants compete in a variety of challenges using 'tags' or simulated weapons which 'shoot' the same type of light used by your TV remote. Players are also fitted with sensors so that opponents eliminate each other by 'shooting' them. The tags or guns contain electronics which not only fire the light rays, but which also detect when the sensors are hit and  keep score of ammo remaining, shots taken and 'enemy' tagged.

This allows the Corps to simulate many of the training situations and challenges which we previously could only practice by 'pretending'.

The equipment is similar to standard military weapons in construction and has ranges in the region of 1000 yards. Challenges such as attacking and defending positions, patrols, ambushes etc will now be possible to test our training in weapons handling, field craft, camouflage etc

In addition, it is planned that units will establish 'crack' teams which will compete in interschool competition in a number of challenges.

All equipment should be available at the start of the new school year and the full program will be finalised  by that time.

In the meantime, officers are invited to contact Cadet HQ to have a look at the samples and to feedback any comments to the training staff.
