Five Officer Cadets attached to the Barbados Cadet Corps received their commissions into the Reserve element of the Barbados Defence Force on Wednesday May 10. The Officers were interviewed by Acting Chief Of Staff of the BDF, Commander Dave Dowridge, who congratulated them on their commissions and presented each new officer with a letter of appointment from the Governor General.

Commander Dowridge then attached the badge of rank on each new officer for the first time. He was assisted by Commandant of the BCC Lt Col T T Browne, CEO Maj Patrick Skeete, and Sea Cadet Unit Commander Sub Lieutenant R Morris.

Those receiving commissions are:

  • 2Lt Dwayne Gamble
  • 2Lt Kalil Greene
  • 2Lt Marcelle Holdford
  • 2Lt Debra Marshall
  • ASL Petra Sealy (Sea cadets)

These Officers would have worked conscientiously over the past thirty months or so to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the stringent requirements necessary to become an officer of the BCC.

This group of officers would have commenced their training at the beginning of 2004 and gone through the busy centennial year of activities as well as the hectic 2005 year of growth. They have learnt quite a lot during the period and are well prepared for their new roles as commissioned officers attached to the Barbados Cadet Corps.

An additional number of Officer Cadets remain in training and are scheduled to be reviewed shortly. At that time, additional commissions may be granted to these potential Officers.

Congratulations to all those who have complete their initial training phase, and best wishes to every one of them
