62 Congrats -Can I assist?   Hi Janet,

Comment: I am from Canada originally, now living in BDS as a citizen. I attended the Saturday parade at the Holetown Festival last weekend and was extremely impressed with the band and other marching cadets. The precision and discipline of the young people was excellent, and I commended one of the leaders, even as the youngsters stood at attention in the hot sun, awaiting the command to proceed forward. I noticed that one band member was not wearing a uniform and learned that there wasn't enough funding for all to have uniforms, and all funding had to come through the Ministry of Defense (or I'd have taken up a collection on the spot amongst audience members, all equally impressed as evidenced by their enthusiastic applause). Is there anything I can do to support your efforts?
Best wishes and congratulations. Janet McLeod
Thank you for you very kind comments and for your interest in assisting. Any assistance that you could provide would be highly appreciated. We would be particularly interested if you were able to contribute some time, skill, guidance and love. The adult leaders are volunteers and our most pressing need is for more leaders to meet the growing number of cadets.

Of course we also need financial assistance, however that cadet without uniform was more likely challenged with an unusual or out of stock boot size than by a general lack of uniform.

Feel free to call our CEO Major Patrick Skeete at 436 6185 to discuss our work.

Hi I'm from Nottinghamshire army cadet force and I'm applying for the exchange to Barbados with our unit was wondering if anyone knew about it!
Yes we do. Plans are ongoing for a visit by cadets from your unit to Barbados in late July to early August. If you are selected to come you can expect a great time. Plans are for the visiting unit to experience local culture and to participate in fun cadet activities. Final details will be with your unit during February.

To be thrown upon one's own resources, is to be cast into the very lap of fortune; for our faculties then undergo a development and display an energy of which they were previously unsusceptible.

As a parent, I am concerned that I have to wait until 2 days before a camp to know that my child have to go to camp. I am not to happy with the poor events. Could you please ensure that cadets receive adequate notice so parents can make necessary arrangements especially for those of us who have to beg for a ride to get to paragon. thank you so much for the good work you have been doing
We are sorry about that situation and hope that is not the norm. This term we have had a record number of activities which has placed much strain on everyone.

We are reviewing our systems to ensure that problems like this are not repeated or created as a result of the increasing level of activities in the Corps.

Things can only get better from here on in the line of Caribbean cadetting. There is still the excitement of winning the Challenge, but the bigger picture was the opportunity to integrate the region even under competitive environments. I congratulate all the countries which took part, I have learnt a number of things, and I believe I have grown in my Cadetting.
On behalf of the Commandant, Officers, Warrant Officers and the Successful Challenge team Trinidad and Tobago, God's richest blessing and until we meet again.

Flying Officer (Lt) Curtis Matthew
Mr. Matthew, the blessings were really ours- to have had the participation of so many keen, positive, enthusiastic cadets and officials from the participating countries. Thank you all, and special thanks to your winning team for their excellent competitive spirit and true cadetting sportsmanship.

we are also looking forward to the future with much anticipation.

I am looking forward to liaising with my fellow officers as we wish here to get some ties going with Cadet Corps from around the region. Hopefully to get a few cadets from here to a Christmas or Easter camp, so they can experience cadet life. Keep the excellent job up officers and staff and cadets.

Base on the posting of results I see for ICCC, Barbados is in 2nd position with 30 points behind 1st. These results were since Thursday so I do not know how they stand now but I Beleive in BCC and we could win this thing. GO BARBADOS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barbados made us all proud. In fact the team took over the lead after Thursday and seemed like sure winners until Trinidad and Tobago excelled in the laser war challenge.

It was a great week of competition. Each team did very well, but Trinidad and Tobago performed best overall.

31 A Suggestion
  Date: 7/6/2007
Time: 11:05:20 AM
Comments:

Hi I would like to suggest that a certificate be awarded for those cadets who have completed their cadet career from Jr. Cadet to star 4 and special honours for those who completed master cadet. This certificate should be recognised by the educational institutions and places of business with the same standards as CXC and any other academic certificate. This would take some time to achieve but it is always good to look at the future of our youth as they put their determination in and strive for excellence. This could also work as a grade point average or just a way to show appreciation to the cadets for their hard work. After receiving the discipline and respect from the Corps and skills which can be used in the work force such as leadership, team building, public speaking etc...
at present there is nothing to show for it but the cadet's word which another cadet who have not completed the entire course would also say; "I was a cadet" giving persons the assumption that they completed their cadet career.

A parent of a proud cadet of the no. 15 unit.
  Done.

We will actually be attempting to launch this program this year after camp.

Thanks for the support, it helps to confirm that we are on the correct path.

This website that you have created keeps former members of the BCC like my self aware of the happening of the corps. I must say that I am jealous of all the strides you have made in recent years because I did not get my chance to part take in them.
I still have my Star 4 2000 and Camp 2001 Tee-shirts, snug, fades and full of holes but still good. An online gift shop would allow us, who cannot shake the BBC from our system to, purchase mementoes of our past encounters with the Barbados Cadet Corps.

PCO Pedro Haynes TAZ
Hi Pedro, good to hear you and that you still remember your cadet experience fondly.

Interesting suggestion about the online gift shop. We are about to establish an old fashioned cadet shop and may well consider expanding as you have suggested. Keep making us proud....

Comments:

I am a past cadet and have to ask this question. "Why wait so long (
or should I say- wait till I left) then bring in the heavy artillery??"
I have made some great suggestions while I was in there and you all wait until now to realize my plans now i'm gone. But that's all good, i'll be at the battle.
We are indeed sorry that you had to grow up and leave cadets. However all is not lost, after you settle down in life and you decide to give some of your time back to future young people - we will be here.

Being an officer or other volunteer is almost as much fun as being a cadet (and you get to play with the electronic guns even more that as a cadet according to reports...)

23  ICCC Question

Major Skeete,

I have the responsibility to select 15 of our cadets for the ICC.

I have looked at the events list but I am unsure exactly what is required and ask that you to clarify the following to assist me with my selection of cadets:

IRON MAN - is this a long triathlon event or a mixture of other activities?
DRILL Competition - is there a drill format and does it include rifle drill?
TEAM RELAY - is it a simple running relay or other?
SECTION BATTLE CHALLENGE - this sounds very interesting and is totally new to us at CICC. Is it similar to paintball or section battle drills?
TRIATHLON - does this require each individual to complete the three events or do we require a swimmer, a cyclist and a runner? Also, what are the distances?

Most of the other events sound straight forward but if there is any other information you could provide, I would really appreciate anything you can send.

Kind regards.
"IRON MAN"-This contest seeks to identify the best OVERALL CADET during the camp. You should identify your most eligible cadet (see the guidelines HERE). ONE candidate from each team will be assessed throughout the Camp period.

Team Relay is a simple running relay race along the road.

The Drill Competition will be foot drill only. It will involve a short fixed routine and a short free session where the squad can show off any special routine desired.

Battle Challenge will be set section battle tactics. However we will be using electronic weapons which will permit realistic marksmanship, hit scoring etc.

In the Triathlon, EACH participant will be required to complete each of the three disciplines. The team time will be the combined times recorded.

You will be receiving a full document detailing each event during May.

Thanks for the questions

Hi. For the electronic battle challenge, y not make it a company event instead of a unit event. Some units might not have the numbers to make up the required number of team members.

Fair question. When Companies become too small should we then settle for Battalion clashes? Any unit that is unable to field 20 cadets to establish a battle group should first take steps to address this shortage.

More importantly, those units that DO have large numbers should not be made to suffer by having to exclude lots of cadets from the fun.

we will however allow units to join together where this is unavoidable.          WM

Time: 7:45:11 AM
Comments:

When registering for ICCC 2007 what information is required to send in the e-mail.
At this stage,  Barbados Cadet Corps is interested in planning such details as the number of Cadet Teams attending; the number of Adults and cadets and the events they will be competing in. At the next stage we would wish to have more details like names, ages, arrival /departure dates etc

If your country will be participating, all we require at this stage is correspondence from your Hq indicating this and the likely numbers involved

A number of non-cadet youth groups have been expressing interest in entering teams, however we wish to give first opportunity to cadets, and to limit teams to around 10.

No sir it is not so.  I did not hide under the cover of my team in any of the rounds. Actually i was the only member of my team to engage the enemy successfully, because I was quarreled with for running up since I was section commander. The start of the electronic laser war was a definite success don't mind big and bold my name and rank is on the site for a defeat. This should be a prime time for all senior NCOs to begin planning and assembling a crack team watch out 'cause the N0. 1 unit coming!

Oh Dear Sgt.

Please accept our apologies- but the truth must be told. Since you raised the matter - did your forces really get carried away and blaze away at each other?

Is it true that you came away unscathed because you were at the rear under heavy cover? Glad you had fun - we all did!

Its great to see the programme still going strong.
I am a little saddened that the band has evolved to include all schools. As a former CO of Co. 3 you will understand my sadness. While I am Singing ....
We the cadets of number three, are very proud of our company.
Through all walks of life, our cadets you' re sure to find, disciplined to the first degree.

The program is going very well. In fact there are now approximately 1400 cadets and recruits. The band is going very well and expanding as we speak....

Don't be sad, be glad... aren't you happy that many more can now benefit from the discipline enjoyed by number 3 over the last 103 years??

Hi, I'm glad to see that the Corps is still training our young people in the areas of manners, discipline & teamwork. I benefited from an enjoyable 6 years at No. 3 Company ( Up & On) and I hope the Corps goes from strength to strength.

Ranks held 1991-92 Lance Corporal (Star 2)
1992-93 Corporal (Star 3)

8 Medical Unit       Shantel Young  Feb 03, 2007
I heard that the Cadet Corps is about to start a medical
unit is it true? If so what is the procedure that one
would have to go through to become a member of such.

  Thank you for your question.
Yes we have started a medical unit recently. You are welcome to join the unit. If you are already a cadet, then you should speak with your officer at your school about joining the Unit. If not yet a cadet the officer who works at your school cadet unit will also assist you in contacting the Medical Unit.
You may also call cadet Headquarters at 436 6185 and speak to Captain Browne about your interest.
This is an interesting, different cadet discipline and anyone interested in the medical field would benefit from membership of the medical unit.

7  Clarification     Jan 28, 2007   Lt.  L Henderson from Dominica
  on age 18.

NB: quote from your site follow.
Each team must comprise 15 cadets between the ages of 14 - 18
Cadets who are between the ages of 18 to 21, will be
involve in the ICC as support staff in terms of
Officials, General Duties and Camp Administration.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WOULD SEEM TO INDICATE THAT SOMEONE AGE
18 CANNOT ACTUALLY PARTICIPATE IN THE GAMES.

ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS AN OFFICER AGE 18
IF HE/SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GAMES.

Thank you for pointing out that issue. The piece should more correctly read " Cadets OVER the age of eighteen may be involved in the ICC...etc"
Officers who fall within the competitors age range will be allowed to compete.
While we are on this issue, the age limits are all as at August 31, 2007.

6 Suggestion  Jan 8, 2007         Sgt Stephen Beharrysingh
Based on the various star level syllabus NCOs are challenged with the task of preparing a lesson plan. Perhaps if the website was to give us access to the information online we would feel a lot more confident in teaching a lesson other than the short notes and long term memory.   Remember that the website is open to all members of the Corps. If you can come up with useful training material we will be happy to make it available to website visitors online.

Give it some thought and let us know how you would like to proceed.

Camp was excellent.   Really glad that you enjoyed camp. We assume that you refer to the Junior Cadet Camp in December....

4 Suggestion  Jan 6, 2007
In a previous suggestion by a concerned person about the corps he/she spoke on the topic of a shortage of uniforms. in your response money was a problem. My idea is to get the cadets involve in raising money and yet rewarding them for doing so. this would allow the cadets from each unit or even companies to raise money on there own, allowing them to use their own creative ideas and make it a competition between themselves. The top units/coy can be awarded things to help themselves e.g.. their own compass and maps only a few (so during the week or such like (outside of a cadet day) when a cadet asks for help u can not say we don't have the material to help you now), or a camera to document cadetting through the yrs, company shirts with a design by the cadets etc... if properly organised it would be successful and fun. it would be vital for the officers to play a role in helping the cadets get excited about this. Thank for letting me voice my idea. hopefully it can be of help.   Thank you for the idea. I sounds like something that we can look at.

3 The Cadet Corps    Jan 3,2007
Greetings and all the best for the 2007. My suggestion for the corps comes on an issue of uniform. I would love to see the day where all the children are outfitted in uniform. However it seems as though that there is a shortage. A temporary suggestion could be to use the green olive draft which from looks to be in an abundance as a the standard training wear and everyday wear for the children. This would allow for a more extensive and proactive training program for the kids and it could possibly increase the numbers of cadets to a substantial amount. If the question arises in terms of differentiating between the adults and the kids one could look to return to the alternative Camouflage uniform for the officers. It is just an idea.   Thank you for your very astute interest. Indeed uniform has been one of the Corp's great challenges for a while now. This is further complicated by the massive growth in numbers over the past few years (from around 500 to neat 1500 cadets). Unfortunately as the Commandant has been saying, our budget has not yet caught up with this growth.

Presently, the green olive kit is even more limited in availability than the regular uniform so your suggestion cannot be used right now. In fact the training wear is useful in protecting the wear-and-tear to regular kit during field training etc. The collective Principals of our Schools are actively seeking to assist us with this issue.

2 Problem
The Personnel link is not updated. There has been a new batch of promotions this year for some time now and the link is outdated since a year ago.   Oh dear! we will get to that as soon as time permits. Promotions are about finalized now ant we promise that updates will soon be done.

"Sena Mc"   Re: Cadet Challenge 2007    29-12-2006

Is more than one team of cadets allowed from a country?

  Good question,
That will depend on the number of entries received overall. Unfortunately there is an absolute limit to the number of persons that we can accommodate. If there is space available when registration is completed we will allow multiple teams from one country. So indicate if you would like to have two teams.                     Webmaster
